Meet Pamela Agava

CHIEF HOME OFFICER

Based in Washington, D.C., Pamela Agava, is Nulo Designs’ self taught Chief Home Officer. All of her designs focus on making sure each client feels n'ụlọ, meaning "at home" in Igbo.

As a first-generation Nigerian American, Pamela has always been sensitive to the impact of feeling at home in a space or place. From an early age, she saw home not just as structures, but a vessel for the collective experiences of one’s story, particularly immigrants, like her parents and extended family. Her own experience taught her how home design could not just beautify a space but enhance the experiences of the people within it.

Her passion for transforming spaces began early and never left. Always interested in visual arts, she jumped at the chance to use her creativity to design fun, creative, but functional spaces for her nieces and nephews. That desire grew as she experienced the different versions of home during her travels.  She was curious about the reasons behind such distinct design aesthetics, particularly in African and Caribbean homes and how people of the diaspora carried that aesthetic as they emigrated from their home countries.

On Sundays, you’ll most likely find her after church at a Taqueria wearing a t-shirt with something punny on it.
